The Book

Little Miss Colorful is the story of a brown skin girl named Isabel who had many sisters with skin color that was lighter than hers. She was a happy girl who had not noticed that she was different and learned to embrace the beauty of diversity.

Little Miss Colorful shines a light on the issue of colorism among the Latinx community and reminds children of all ethnicities that their skin tone, regardless of color, is beautiful.

The Author

Maria Isabel Novoa grew up in the Los Angeles area, where she has been able to maintain a high amount of her Mexican culture due to the high population of Latinos in the area as well as the Mexican history that remains in the state.

Maria Isabel graduated from Cal State University Long Beach with a degree in Communication Studies, and she is currently attending Mount Saint Mary’s University in Los Angeles, where she is completing a master’s degree in marriage and family therapy.
